For my media studies title task I chose to use the genre 'Film Noir' as I was excited to explore the lighting and sound effects used within the genre. As well as the action and the way you would have to use the camera to make sure the action is captured.
‘Film Noir’ is French for ‘black film/cinema’;
Nino Frank first used this to identify a film theme in 1946. A line of cheap
paperbacks that translated hard-boiled American crime and found a popular
audience in France. A Film Noir makes it clear to the
audience that there isn’t going to be a happy ending. Film Noir reflected the
time period to which it begun, when there was a fear and threat of nuclear
annihilation during the Cold War. A violent, criminal and misogynistic
perspective of villains and anti-heroes were used as a metaphor for the moral
conflict and evil in society. Film Noir represented the sense of injustice and
conflict that was present at the time. Due to the fact that Film Noir was
created during and post World War 2 it became prominent post-war as it is what
most people wanted to see and it represented their feelings of anxiety and
suspicion.
